This model is a reproduction of the one created by Oliver Wendell Holmes in 1862.

In 1838, Sir Charles Wheatstone invented the "stereoscope", an instrument which allowed its user to see drawings from two different angles, giving the impression of three-dimensionality.

Development of photography transformed the stereoscope from a simple scientific curiosity into one of the most popular “toys” of the bourgeoisie after 1850.

This beautifully crafted Victorian toy includes 12 stereoscopic images and measures 120mm in height, 150mm across and 370mm in length.

Material: MDF and sapele wood tainted with natural wax and polished, cardboard, printed paper, plastic optical glasses, aluminium and brass lacquer and leatherette.
